Love My Car

Stranded on the interstate
My car broke down
I was forced to wait
The tow truck took his sweet time finding me
He charged me ninety dollars to add to my misery

You know I love my car
I pet the dashboard
You know I love my car

I put the keys at the station
I called a taxi in frustration
An hour waiting for that cab to come
He blasted Middle Eastern music the whole way home

You know I love my car
I pet the dashboard
You know I love my car

The mechanic’s veins were blood, grease, testosterone
He put a new clutch in my car
I tossed him a bone
And you shoulda heard that engine purr the whole way home

Another time, another day
I coasted to a service bay
The greasy whiskered man had dollars in his eyes
He wondered, “How much would a clueless woman buy?”

You know I love my car
I pet the dashboard
You know I love my car

The mechanic’s veins were blood, grease, testosterone
A carburetor in my car
I tossed him a bone
And you shoulda heard that engine purr the whole way home

Driving from my state inspection
An officer with speed detection
Clocked me speeding down I-95
Think I’ll be paying for this car until I die

You know I love my car
I pet the dashboard
You know I love my car
Don’t you know that I love my car
I gotta tell you I love my car
Well, I pet the dashboard, I love my car
And if anyone asks say I love my car
Well it costs more to nix it than it does to fix it
It costs more to save it than it does to trade it
It costs more to hitch it than it does to pitch it
You know I love my car
